When a tooth is seriously damaged or decayed, our dentists may recommend a restoration called a crown. Crowns are generally used when a tooth is too badly damaged to be effectively repaired with a filling, inlay, or onlay. The dental crown entirely covers the portion of the tooth visible above the gum line; for this reason, crowns are sometimes referred to as caps. Each crown is custom created from impressions of your smile to fit comfortably and aesthetically. When in place, a dental crown can greatly improve the function and health of your smile. Our dentists may suggest this type of restoration in order to protect a tooth following root canal therapy, to repair a severely damaged or decayed tooth, to complete and cover a dental implant, and for a number of other cosmetic and restorative purposes. Crowns are very versatile and can be used to serve a number of purposes.
Thanks to a form of advanced dental CAD-CAM technology known as CEREC, our dentists are able to design, create, and place a custom-made crown in a single visit at our office. We use digital impressions, eliminating messy molds and impressions, and state-of-the-art CEREC computer imaging to design the crown to fit your smile. We then create the crown with our in-office milling machine and place it in your smile, securing it with a special dental cement
VIP Smiles also has an in-office dental lab, where we can provide custom shade matching at no extra charge and without having to leave to visit a lab. This ensures that your porcelain crown blends in beautifully with your smile. CEREC technology reduces the time involved in getting a dental crown, eliminates the need for temporary crowns, and gives you a dental experience that is more comfortable and streamlined.
